Veteran Mass Effect developer Mac Walters has launched a brand new studio, Worlds Untold. The studio, which is based in Vancouver, Canada, is currently developing AAA action-adventure games with a focus on narrative and worldbuilding. Worlds Untold is a studio under Net Ease Games, known for their mobile adaptions of games like Eve Echos and Dead by Daylight Mobile.

Walters is a veteran of the video game industry, having spent over two decades working on some of its most popular titles. His work on the Mass Effect series is particularly noteworthy, as he served as the Lead Writer on Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, and as the project director on Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

The studio’s debut project is a near-future, action-adventure game set in a world filled with mystery and exploration. From what we’ve already seen in the Mass Effect series, it’s hard to imagine this won’t be incredibly gripping. Walters seems to be excited about it.

“We’re creating incredibly meaningful stories that we believe are best told and experienced through play. We are starting by crafting worlds that we all dream of discovering and then we’ll put the player in the leading role of the most unforgettable adventures… The team at NetEase Games shares our vision and passion to utilize leading edge technology to create the best possible new games. Their teams’ support and creative freedom affords us the opportunity to deliver on that vision.”

The studio is completely remote, which has its own challenges. However, it doesn’t look like the team will struggle since it has a studio full of industry veterans.

Walters is joined at Worlds Untold by including Audio Director Sotaro Tojima, Head of Production Elizabeth Lehtonen, Head of Art Ramil Sunga, and Head of Technology Ben Goldstein. The team comprises people who have worked on Metal Gear Solid, Halo, The Sims, all the Mass Effect games, Anthem, all of the Dragon Age titles, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and For Honor. This is an impressive list of veterans.

I’m excited to see what the game will be about when it is eventually revealed.
