In a significant blow to its community of ardent players, Video Horror Society, a horror-themed game, is set to wind up its operations by September 2023. The game’s developers made the official announcement, acknowledging the challenging nature of the decision.

In the words of the developers, “We are transitioning to peer-to-peer matchmaking, and over the next three months we will be ending live services so that we can focus on other projects. On September 8th 2023, we will be removing Video Horror Society from Steam and Epic and shutting down the game completely.”

Regrettably, despite two Betas and a year in early access, Video Horror Society was unable to achieve the commercial success needed to cover its operating costs. This factor was cited as the core reason for the shutdown.

In the process leading up to the closure, the developers have announced plans to remove their DLCs, Fanbux bundles, and Founder’s Packs from stores. However, they added that, “Existing Fanbux balances will still be able to be spent, and we will still have a full store rotation of content so you can keep earning and spending your Flux in peer-to-peer games.”

Despite the upcoming closure, players can still enjoy the game until the official shutdown in September. “Your account and all of your rewards and purchases will remain active until the game is officially sunsetted on September 8th, 2023,” the developers affirmed.

Answering queries about the availability of new content, the developers stated, “Our last game update is on June 9th, 2023. At this time, all of our remaining assets will be added to the game to fill the store rotation for the next three months. There will also be some final features added in this patch which you will be able to find in the patchnotes. After this, we will stop servicing the game with new content.”

Regarding the future of the Video Horror Society’s social platforms, the developers informed that the Discord server will be shut down on June 16th, but fans can stay connected by following Hellbent Games on Twitter.

While this news marks the end for Video Horror Society, it opens a new chapter for the developers. “The silver lining of this goodbye is that we’re able to commit resources towards new projects. Although we are not able to talk about anything we have in the works right now, you can follow us on Twitter for any future updates we may share.”
