Wall World, a tower defense and roguelite indie from developer and publisher Alawar Premium, has just released yet another key update within a week of launch. The new patch, v.1.0.2, introduces some very serious environment changes, as well as minor effects improvements and bug fixes.
Wall World launched on April 5th, 2023, and is currently only available on PC. Until April 12th, it will also be on sale for Steam users. Here’s the full announcement from Alawar Premium’s Twitter feed:
Alawar Premium is hard at work responding to the fans with Wall World, and the dedication is much appreciated. After all, responses have already been very high, and we also gave Wall World a strong score in our full review.
Wall World is not a game that urgently needed fixing, with a smooth launch and surprisingly decent balancing. It will be interesting to see just how many patches the devs can muster, especially when it barely launched earlier this week. Further, the changes are not arbitrary, but address key issues that will bolster the game’s longevity.
There will be fewer lore rooms and giant mines, and “the length of some biomes” will be shortened. This is going to tighten up the pacing, lending a little more emphasis on tower defense gameplay. And rare resources or schematics will now be easier to discover, which is definitely going to give players more advantages.
Changes like this are going to ease the loop into something more accessible, but only in the areas where it was needed. The devs have been smartly strategic about the balancing they’ve updated.
The Steam page notes some plans for future updates. This includes controls remapping, widescreen support, and localization, but remained somewhat vague about larger improvements.
