Starfield – What Does Jettison Do in Starfield? Answered

In simple terms, to ‘Jettison,’ an item means to throw it out of your ship in Starfield, causing it to be lost forever in the vastness of space. From tiny trinkets to larger objects, anything can be jettisoned from your ship. However, there’s a catch. Items crucial to quests remain with you, ensuring you don’t accidentally toss out something vital to your quests.

While it might seem strange to dump cargo, For instance, if you’re about to face a security checkpoint and have Contraband items on board, jettisoning can save you from potential trouble. But if you’re looking to retain the item’s value, consider smuggling it instead. But you need specific starship equipment for that, so it’s not available straight away.

A fun fact: Some players on Reddit mistakenly read ‘Jettison’ as ‘Jemison,’ which is the name of a planet where the Lodge is located in Starfield. This led them to believe that using the jettison option would transport items back to the Lodge. Instead, they were unintentionally discarding items into space.

Can You Get Back a Jettison Item in Starfield?

No, you cannot get back a Jettisoned item in Starfield. Once you’ve jettisoned something, there’s no turning back. It’s gone for good. However, you can reload a previous save to retrieve the item. We tried to locate a jettisoned item in space after ejecting it and even to see if we could find it if it landed on a planet, but it was nowhere to be found.

The silver lining is that Starfield frequently auto-saves. So, if you’ve accidentally jettisoned something valuable, you can revert to a recent save to recover it. This can be done by setting the game to save after resting or after a specific time interval, accessible from the pause menu.
