Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the upcoming fantasy RPG from Koei Tecmo, has released an action-packed trailer alongside the Xbox direct livestream. The trailer includes both gorgeous cinematics and actual gameplay. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will launch on March 3rd, 2023, for PC and both generations of Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Here’s today’s latest trailer from Koei Tecmo:
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has received some backlash from fans for its Soulslike gameplay. Fans have also compared trailers to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Team Ninja’s own Nioh, too. But Wo Long’s setting and style are filled with personality, nonetheless. The game had a very successful demo, and it’s clearly committed to an unbridled tone that pairs well with the fluid martial arts combat.
Today’s new trailer shows off some really clean cinematics, too, revisiting popular characters from the Three Kingdoms such as Lu Bu. It’s great to see characters that were mowing down crowds in Dynasty Warriors in this new light. The action is the focal point in the new trailer, and it’s certainly well-staged, though actual gameplay hints that combat could become a little unbalanced.
A lot more of the in-game magic has been revealed since then, and hopefully this doesn’t disrupt or even replace the martial arts combat. There’s a certain flow to the parrying and attacking that looks promising for now.
The original creature designs are generally brilliant. Most of the revealed enemies have very distinguishable features, and the Xbox direct showcased interesting enemy behavior too. While it’s hardly comparable to Monster Hunter, or even the upcoming Wild Hearts, the martial arts flavor and warrior duels should add plenty of fun.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has ramped up marketing since its first gameplay trailer, and each glimpse seems to have some improvement.
