Skybound Games, in conjunction with developer Mega Cat Studios, has announced the impending launch of WrestleQuest, an RPG game focusing on professional wrestling. The launch, slated for August 8, will cover a range of platforms: PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Additionally, newly confirmed versions for iOS and Android will be made available through Netflix. The game was originally scheduled for release in May.
In WrestleQuest, the player takes on the role of a promising young wrestler aiming to etch their name amongst the greats of the sport. The character’s journey is modeled after wrestling luminaries such as the legendary “Macho Man” Randy Savage. As the game progresses, the player’s character evolves from a novice to a world champion, mastering various moves, styles, and taunts that enhance their stage persona. Beyond the physical aspects, the game also challenges the character’s moral compass and determination.
Success in WrestleQuest’s wrestling universe hinges on building a formidable team, necessitating strategic alliances. The game requires players to collaborate and outmaneuver competitors as a unit, employing tag team strategies to secure victories.
A major highlight of the game is the homage it pays to renowned wrestling figures such as “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Booker T, Andre The Giant, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Diamond Dallas Page, Jeff Jarrett, and more. These characters make appearances in various forms throughout the game, providing a historical context to the player’s journey.
The developer, Mega Cat Studios, has had first-hand experience working with wrestling celebrities. Jeff Jarrett, Diamond Dallas Page, and Al Snow have all contributed to the game’s development, providing insights that have been captured in the exclusive Beyond The Cat series.
WrestleQuest takes players beyond the wrestling ring into a realm filled with action figure fighters, exotic monsters, and spandex-clad allies. The game features numerous side missions, bonus content, and more, adding to its depth and complexity.
James Deighan, founder of Mega Cat Studios, expressed the team’s pride in WrestleQuest, celebrating the game as a tribute to the wrestling community and its many heroes. He hinted at the inclusion of several wrestling legends in the game and the potential for unexpected surprises.
Adding to the excitement, WWE Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Jarrett said, “I’ve conquered the wrestling ring, so now it’s time for Double J to conquer video games!” He lauded the Mega Cat team for their deep-rooted passion for the professional wrestling world and commended WrestleQuest as a tribute to the past, present, and future of wrestling.
