Born of Bread, a casual RPG adventure from indie developer WildArts Studio Inc. and publisher Dear Villagers, has just announced that it will now launch in Fall 2023. Originally expected to launch this summer, an exact release date still has not been confirmed.
According to a new post from the developers’ official Twitter feed, the release was delayed for “more time to polish and debug”. The devs also playfully note that players might “have too many games to play right now”.
Born of Bread will be available on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can watch today’s new gameplay trailer on the Dear Villagers YouTube channel:
Born of Bread revealed a key gameplay trailer back in March, so today’s new footage concentrates on cinematics and fun dialogue instead of showcasing or breaking down mechanics again.
This should be effective enough, because it’s the world in Born of Bread that’s most likely to interest viewers. It flaunts a quirky attitude, from its basic premise to its odd little characters. Players assume the role of a flour golem, who must explore strange lands as beings from “another age” begin to wreak havoc.
The devs were wise enough to infuse the game with a frequent and friendly sense of humor, which definitely comes through in today’s new footage. In fact, even in the face of a delayed release window, the marketing for Born of Bread insists on using baking puns, reassuring fans it will get “extra cooking time for a golden crust”.
Born of Bread also has a neat little combat system that combines quick-time events with turn-based action. It’s an inspired twist on comparable titles like Paper Mario, and although fans might be disappointed with the delay, it will almost certainly pay off.
