Following the new Saviors launch trailer, Apex Legendsofficial website has updated with promises for a new ranked system, and hints about Storm Point’s map changes.

While there have been a few updates to Apex Legends’ ranked system now and then, the official site is promising a total rework with some very interesting language.

To begin with, the page hints that the new ranked system might allow players to be demoted from one Rank to another. While this would be very punishing, it would also solve one of the most serious issues that players have had with Season 12’s ranked gameplay.

It can be difficult to pull together a dedicated team, so most players tend to solo queue with randoms. Unfortunately, the existing ranked system has capped kills and rewarded ratting.

As a result, some players are reaching a Rank that they can’t handle, and end up stuck in the bottom tier until they’re reset.

This causes the gameplay to suffer, for players who can’t compete with the new rank, and their teammates too. Although this is only speculation, adding demotion to the bottom of a Rank could actually create more balanced gameplay for everyone.

The Downed Beast map changes

Aside from reworking the ranked system, Apex Legends also reveals some hints about monsters on Storm Point. It seems that the sea monster from the trailer is still present, and it could even be interactive.

Although it’s considered a “Downed Beast”, the website suggests there will still be a dangerous element to the area, in exchange for rewards on the beach.

It’s possible that spiders have simply infested the beast’s corpse, or that Prowlers are scavenging from its remains too. There would be nothing new to program, since both are already interactive creatures.

However, it seems more likely that this kraken-style beast will pull a horror movie twist, and lash out for one last scare. This way, teams could work together to finish it off, and gain the rewards, similar to Trials on World’s Edge.

Although some players don’t care for creature interference, as in The Forbidden Zone (commonly known as Jurassic Park), the Downed Beast itself is shaping up to be a stationary thing on shore. But you might look out for that projectile beam and some swinging claws.
