Gord, an upcoming strategy and dark fantasy adventure from developer Covenant.dev and publisher Team17, has just released a new showcase revealing “The Horrors”. Today’s trailer reveals the origins of these enemies, and teases some of their potential mechanics.

Gord was recently delayed, and it is now slated to launch on August 17th, 2023. The devs have explained they made this decision in order to launch the game on PC and consoles simultaneously. Gord will be available on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. You can watch today’s Horror showcase trailer on the Team17 YouTube channel:

Today’s trailer introduces The Horrors, who appear to be the main bosses. They are “the most powerful demons brought to Earth”, and it is teased that players will be able to destroy them, though it will be challenging.

The Horrors all have a very distinguishable design, some of which are even humanoid. One is a sea monster, and another looks like it leapt right out of Scorn. So, any actual methods of defeating them should also vary greatly.

Today’s footage is purely cinematic, so newcomers may not realize that Gord is primarily a colony sim, though you’ll be completing quests. An early gameplay trailer from last April featured brutal conditions to overcome. Now, it seems that The Horrors will tie in directly, demanding players to sacrifice some of their villagers and potentially key resources, too.

Each of The Horrors have an ancient presence and creative little details, indicative of the cultural influence. The game’s official Steam page mentions that players will be able to uncover a Chronicle in-game, which explains how Gord’s history “blends real-world Slavic mythology with dark fantasy”. This may be crucial to devising a strategy against The Horrors.
