Disney Speedstorm, the divisive kart racing game from developer and publisher Gameloft, has just announced that a worldwide mobile launch could be on the way soon, according to a new post on the official Twitter feed.

Disney Speedstorm is currently available with paid Early Access on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s already in its third season “Ohana”, which has a Lilo & Stitch theme, featuring fan favorite characters like Angel with their Siren Song.

Also, Disney Speedstorm is expected to go free to play later this month on September 28th, 2023. Fans can pre-register for the Google Play mobile launch now. But iPhone fans will have to wait, as information for the Apple App Store “will be announced at a later time”. Here’s the full statement from today’s post:

Aside from announcing Google Play pre-registration, today’s post is carefully vague, which is a shame. There has been a mobile soft launch for some time now, in very specific regions. The majority of fan reactions thus far have been fine enough, so mobile users should look forward to a wider release.

It doesn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence that the devs can only reveal they’re “racing towards” the worldwide release, and that the App Store appears to be lagging behind Android devices. It’s unclear if the mobile port is having serious issues that will need to be resolved. However, the full launch is quickly approaching, which certainly puts some pressure on the mobile port to keep up.

The core game has a decent amount of content, and the controls are more responsive than some comparable titles, which sometimes amount to simple cash grabs. But the approach to unlocking just about anything in Disney Speedstorm can feel very unbalanced and counterintuitive.
