A new release date trailer for Dredge, an upcoming adventure RPG from indie developer Black Salt Games and publisher Team17, has just revealed a launch date for March 30th, 2023. It will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One or Series X|S. Here’s the full trailer from Team17’s official YouTube channel:

Today’s trailer was almost purely cinematic, and still every bit as captivating as all the gameplay teases since Dredge was first revealed last year.

The new trailer absolutely captures the mysterious tone of the game, as the protagonist is rewarded for increasingly large and strange hauls. It’s both moody and patient, and the editing smartly escalates the pacing of the story. It naturally builds tension, and the cliffhanger alone boasts more suspense than most horror games out there.

Dredge was always an indie darling, thanks to its compelling art design, music, and world. There’s a magical realism to its adventures at sea, and the RPG mechanics mentioned on Dredge’s Steam page are a perfect fit.

Having NPCs directly explain lore is traditional RPG fare, but Dredge will have them piece together mysteries, which is much more interesting. Upgrading your boat and discovering collectibles round out the world, too.

Team17 has a definite winner with Dredge. The publisher is probably best known for their Overcooked series, the multiplayer chaos classic. Lately, Team17 has made the rounds with their other seafaring indie Ship of Fools, which released last November, and the metroidvania adventure The Knight Witch, which was delayed and launched last December.

Dredge is the debut game for indie team Black Salt Games, a collaboration between three very gifted developers. Hopefully, the lot of them have plans for future titles together now that Dredge has sparked so much interest.
