Developer and publisher Forever Entertainment has announced today that the release of Front Mission 2: Remake has been delayed. This announcement was made just a few days ahead of the game’s initial release date.

Back in March 2023, Forever Entertainment revealed that the tactical role-playing game originally released in 1997, Front Mission 2, would finally launch for the first time outside of Japan on June 12th for the Nintendo Switch in a remastered version. Unfortunately, Forever Entertainment recently announced that the game’s release has been postponed to provide more time for adding as many functionalities as possible.

Here’s the full statement from Forever Entertainment’s Twitter account:

Dear Players,

As the premiere date for FRONT MISSION 2: Remake approaches, we have made the decision to postpone the release of the game on Nintendo Switch. This decision was not taken lightly, but in collaboration with the development team, we want to ensure that we have sufficient time to add as many functionalities as possible while proceeding with proper implementation and tests, in order to meet your expectations for a modern-day remake.

We understand the anticipation surrounding FRONT MISSION 2: Remake and the excitement you have shown throughout its development. Please rest assured that we are fully committed to delivering a polished and faithful remake of your beloved franchise.

While we are currently unable to provide a specific revised premiere date, we assure you that we are working tirelessly to complete the project as soon as possible, with the aim of releasing the game in the third quarter of this year.

Please stay updated on any development news by following our channels, including our social media profiles and Discord server.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

By delaying Front Mission 2: Remake‘s release, Forever Entertainment demonstrated its commitment to making sure to deliver a game that is polished and entirely enjoyable for all players. Thankfully, fans who have eagerly awaited the release have expressed understanding and support for the decision, urging the developers to take the necessary time to guarantee a successful launch.

Front Mission 2 is set 12 years following the events of its predecessor, Front Mission 1. The game’s narrative unfolds through the alternating perspectives of three characters, namely Ash, Lisa, and Thomas, creating a complex worldview that transcends the conventional boundaries of good and evil. The remake faithfully preserves the mature storytelling, strategic turn-based combat, and customizable Wanzer units. However, it also introduces numerous significant improvements, including improved loading speed, expanded language support, the addition of a ‘free camera’ option enabling players to zoom in during gameplay and inspect Wanzers in minute detail, new color and camouflage choices, modern in-game effects, and more.

As of now the new release date for Front Mission 2: Remake is uncertain, but you may add it now to your Nintendo eShop wishlist to be notified when it becomes available.
