Luto, an upcoming psychological horror indie about mourning and phobias from developer and publisher Broken Bird Games, will officially be released thanks to a new collaboration with Selecta Play.

It will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation 5, the last of which is getting a physical edition too.

Luto does not have a release date yet. However, more news is coming soon, according to the developer’s tweet about their new partnership with Selecta Play. This may include a look at the physical edition, as well as a release window. You can watch today’s new announcement trailer on Selecta Play’s YouTube channel:

Selecta Play has published some astonishing hidden gems. Last week, they announced a PlayStation physical edition for open world mystery The Silent Swan, and helped release the touching indie sim Minabo. Later this month, Selecta Play will also publish the narrative puzzle adventure Inner Ashes.

Simply put, emotional sincerity and depth play a large role in many of their titles, and that is going to keep Luto on brand. Today’s announcement trailer for Luto begins with a remark about depression, and as it unfolds, it delves into surreal imagery and symbolism.

According to the official Steam page, the developers warn that Luto will depict “anxiety, depression, and suicide”. This can be upsetting for people dealing with real issues.

However, it also nods to classic ghost tales, which often explore how people cope with grief and the past. Also, today’s trailer adds some familiar apparition scares, toying with lighting and sound effects to manipulate a jump. This haunted house entertainment is more accessible, and might help soften some of the tougher themes to approach.
