LEGO Brawls, the casual fighting platformer from developer Red Games Co. and publisher LEGO Games, has just released a trailer for the new game mode “Base Race”. The mode rolls out alongside a new Castle-themed level in an update today.

LEGO Brawls originally launched for mobile devices as far back as 2019, but it released on all platforms just a few months ago. You can watch today’s trailer on the Epic Games YouTube channel here:

LEGO has actually implemented a very successful twist with Base Race, finally making the most of its world of bricks without losing the core influences of Super Smash Bros. altogether.

Although LEGO Brawls has included some cute updates now and then, such as the Jingle Brawls holiday event, Base Race is the kind of mode that could only truly flourish with a LEGO theme. It’s the ideal blend of construction and fighting that finally distinguishes and defines LEGO Brawls a little more.

Players need to mine in order to build their own base, while trying to destroy the opponents’ base. It’s a simple premise that adds more flavor to the platforming itself, because players will need to strategize how much time they spend on one objective or another.

New items and cosmetics are always nice, but this is the content LEGO Brawls needs to supply in order to renew interest. After all, despite the popularity of the IP, there are so very many LEGO-based games that LEGO Brawls requires more of a push to get noticed.

After all, LEGO Drive 2K was only just announced last week. Larger titles like that, with massive open world racing, sort of eclipse these smaller gems. But that’s unfortunate, because LEGO Brawls is a perfectly entertaining little game.
