PlayWay continues to expand its wide library of simulation games, which have recently seen a lot of new announcements. In just the last week, they have revealed a new Horse DLC trailer for Animal Shelter Simulator, and a compelling Kickstarter trailer for Forest Ranger Simulator.

Naturally, Nuclear Sub hardly compares to the relaxing and philanthropic tone of those titles. However, they are all very niche fields, which is often crucial for sim games to succeed. That’s especially true if you’re aiming for grounded realism instead of wacky fun. And Nuclear Sub’s new Steam page does mention the devs aimed to create a “realistic” experience.

Nuclear Sub is definitely tapping into a unique area. Fans of action movies like Crimson Tide or U-571 will note that the setting, procedures, and unique combat situations play a large role in their success. It’s an interesting flavor with lots of storytelling potential and danger, so it’s nice that Nuclear Sub will include a full campaign with ten missions “based on real scenarios”.

Although the graphics are just as expected from an indie game like this, there is a surprising volume of responsibilities to manage. Players will need to tend for dozens of AI crewmates, and deal with realistic damage to the sub. In other words, the game could very well be more ambitious than it looks.

Given the trailer, Nuclear Sub seems to offer an intriguing kitchen sink of mechanics that borrow from a handful of other simulator staples. There are many gamers who enjoy realism and management, so this is worth keeping an eye on.
