Weirdly, publisher PlayWay’s “announcement” trailer today actually contains all of the same footage from 2021’s official trailer for CyberTown. The original trailer has accumulated thousands of views.

However, it’s also worth noting that if PlayWay is releasing today’s trailer as an “announcement”, then a release date is likely due to be revealed soon. That aside, the title is admittedly disappointing and quite misleading.

PlayWay is mentioned as a cooperating publisher on GamePlanet’s official site, and PlayWay is generally known for their parade of simulation games. January has been a big month for PlayWay, as they announced both Forest Ranger Simulator’s Kickstarter campaign and the open world sim game Nuclear Sub.

CyberTown is a more appealing game, conceptually speaking, than most of Playway’s indie sims. The cyberpunk influences drew immediate comparisons to Cyberpunk 2077, but there’s some very interesting lore, and the mechanics are pretty inspired.

Granted, sci-fi allows a little more freedom in terms of the sim genre. Even if today’s trailer is a re-release, its pumping music and flashy editing are still satisfying.

PlayWay itself has been hit or miss, offering both the shameless failure Bum Simulator and the compelling WW2 Rebuilder, which just launched a few days ago.

However, Cyber Games is still a burgeoning developer with promise to shape their own identity. They also have CyberMedic Simulator coming soon, where players assume the role of a sci-fi war medic who operates in the heat of space battles. It happens to be a more intriguing hook than CyberTown, but Cyber Games clearly has a lot of creative potential.
