Smalland: Survive the Wilds, the adventure RPG indie about tiny survival from developer and publisher Merge Games, will officially release its digital 1.0, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S versions on December 7th, 2023. Physical copies for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ports will be available in retail the next day, December 8th.
Smalland: Survive the Wilds has been available in Early Access since March 2023, and that version is available now on PC. You can watch today’s full launch and console announcement trailer on the Merge Games YouTube channel:
Smalland: Survive the Wilds has done well to distinguish itself from similar titles like Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded, though they do share mechanics.
Smalland lives up to its title with a much deeper element of survival, where players must even consider the environment and pay close attention to their armor sets. Its tone and visuals also emphasize danger a bit more, and the scope is unexpectedly large, packed with content and new locations, mounts, and items to discover.
There have been many updates throughout early access, such as the Giant’s Fall update from last May, which added Catapults and a new area. Smalland: Survive the Wilds is extensive enough that we’ve provided a wide variety of guides for crucial mechanics like making healing patches. You might want to review those if you’re a newcomer to the game, perhaps waiting for the console version.
Smalland: Survive the Wilds’ expansive world will definitely benefit from next-gen releases, and fans should be pleased that a physical edition will be released so closely to launch. Many times, indies don’t release physical copies until much later, often with some special edition.
