Astronimo, an upcoming puzzle and platformer indie from developer Coatsink, has just been revealed by publisher Thunderful Games with a brand-new trailer. A technical Beta, which supports online multiplayer, is available on Steam now. You can also wishlist the game on Steam today.

Although a release window has not been announced, today’s trailer does state that more details should be expected “soon”. You can watch the full announcement trailer on Thunderful Games’ official YouTube channel here:

Thunderful Games is probably best known for their recent big announcement for SteamWorld Build, which adds the city builder genre to the series. They have consistently championed remarkable indie titles, and Astronimo is just immediately charming in all of the best ways.

The art design isn’t just cute, but whimsical. It really establishes the friendly tone the devs were aiming for, which is reinforced by supporting cooperative gameplay.

Cooperative puzzle games can be a lot of fun as a party or couple’s game, especially if you have the freedom to discover your own solutions. So, it’s great to see that today’s trailer specifically encourages you to find “your own way”. It works in ragdoll classic Human Fall Flat and similar titles.

Ideally, the puzzles will be flexible and interesting enough to accommodate the players’ ability to construct.

The environments themselves are both simple and inventive in Astronimo. This can be a tough balancing act, and it’s key for games with a smaller budget. Astronimo looks like Astroneer went on a puzzle-filled road trip, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Fans of the puzzle genre, and the science exploration genre, should be very pleased with this one. Developer Coatsink is best known for Gang Beasts, a brilliant multiplayer ragdoll game with more platforming, so they’ve already had success with these mechanics.
