Team17, the publisher behind popular indie games like Trepang2, Killer Frequency and Dredge, has officially announced that they will partner with Lichthund to publish their next game. The title itself, and any sort of window for this collaboration, have not been confirmed yet. Here’s the full statement as seen in today’s big tweet:

Lichthund is an indie team based in Poland that started out with just two creatives in 2015. Lichthund is currently best known for Lichtspeer, a psychedelic action arcade game about throwing “lightspears” in the future. Lichtspeer launched in 2019 and is available now on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and even Google Play.

The way that Lichtspeer revels in its strangeness and blood proves that Lichthund has plenty of intrigue ahead. Although their only game has been largely overlooked, it has still received a lot of praise.

Though the mechanics are fairly simple, being influenced by arcade games, the authentic Germanic flavor and surreal approach both make a big impression. Along with a retro soundtrack, Lichtspeer seems like an enjoyable fever dream.

Team17 has quite a few upcoming titles already, ramping up with an official release date for Moving Out 2, and another release date for survival colony sim Gord. Currently, Team17 has an enormous amount of goodwill for Trepang2, which fans have strongly responded to for its carnage.

That pulpy attitude lines up with Lichtspeer, though the next title from Lichthund is purely left to speculation. Right now, Lichthund is developing Food Truck Empire alongside Pixel Crow Games, with no release window. It’s a food truck tycoon game with dense customization.

This is an entirely different direction from Lichtspeer, which makes it difficult to anticipate what kind of game Team17 will be publishing for Lichthund. But it does prove the developer’s creative flexibility.
