In The Front, Crude Oil is a vital resource, especially for an early quest that requires you to gather ten units of it. While there are multiple ways to obtain Crude Oil, some methods are more efficient than others, as one method doesn’t even count toward collecting this resource. Later in the game, you can craft Crude Oil easily, so it’s only an issue in the early game. Crude Oil is also vital to make things such as Polymer, so it’s always handy to have plenty available.
This guide will outline two primary methods for collecting crude Oil, helping you complete the quest and stock up on this essential resource. If you’re after getting followers to operate your crafting stations, follow this guide: How to Get Followers in The Front.
The Front Crude Oil Guide
The first way to get Crude Oil in The Front is straightforward and involves using a spade to dig up giant mounds of dirt near your base. These mounds are hard to miss and are a dark brown or black. Using a spade on these mounds will yield Crude Oil. However, these mounds are relatively rare and have a slow respawn rate, so keep your spade handy as you explore the area around your base.
The second method involves using a Manual Miner, a structure you can build in The Front. Once created, you can interact with it to gather Crude Oil. However, this method has its limitations. To use the Manual Miner, walk up behind it and hold the interact button. A menu will appear, allowing you to choose between mining for ores or Oil. While this method works, it’s not the most efficient. You could sit there for an extended period and gather only a tiny amount of Crude Oil. Moreover, the Manual Miner doesn’t seem to count towards the quest requirement, making it less reliable for that specific purpose, but after digging up 10 Crude Oil, use the Manual Miner to get more of it.
