In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you will see icons of Pokémon when you pull up your map. This indicates that there is a Mass Outbreak of that Pokémon in that area, increasing your chances of capturing it. You will also find question marks on the map with glowing icons beneath them. These icons imply that there is a Mass Outbreak of a specific Pokémon in that area that is not yet registered in your Pokédex.

You can determine what that Pokémon is by exploring the area with a question mark on the map. Meanwhile, Mass Outbreaks can also be useful in raising your chances of finding a Shiny Pokémon. Follow this guide if you want to learn more about Mass Outbreaks in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet!

To increase your odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon through Mass Outbreaks, you will need to defeat or catch more of the same Pokémon in an area with Mass Outbreak. If you have cleared 30-59 Pokémon in a Mass Outbreak, you will have a 1/2048 base odds of finding a Shiny Pokémon. Meanwhile, if you cleared 60 or more Pokémon in a Mass Outbreak, you will have a 1/1365 base odds of discovering a Shiny Pokémon.

You can also use items such as the Shiny Charm and the Sparkling Power Sandwich to boost your chances of encountering a Shiny Pokémon. Shiny Charm is only available once the Paldean Pokédex has been completed. This means that you must first collect all 400 Pokémon.
