Dark and Steel-types were created in Generation II to counteract the Psychic type, and they are both resistant to Psychic assaults. The move Miracle Eye, on the other hand, can nullify this immunity. If a Dark Pokemon’s other type is Poison, it only be weak to Ground, which negates all of the Dark-type’s other weaknesses. Dark Pokemon had no weaknesses if their other type was Ghost before the addition of the Fairy type in Generation VI.

Certain Dark-type attacks often have secondary effects that are otherwise not available from moves of other types. They also have lesser base power than other sorts of techniques, although in certain conditions, their strength can be augmented by their aforementioned secondary effects (some examples being Payback or Assurance).

Fighting, Dark, and Fairy all resist Dark-type attacks, so using them in tandem with Fairy attacks will maximize neutral coverage.

Dark-type movements are usually classified as Clever maneuvers in competitions.

Dark Type Weaknesses

Dark-type Pokemon have weaknesses to Bug, Fairy, and Fighting moves when on defense. While on offense Dark, Fairy, and Fighting take less damage from them.

Dark Type Strengths

Dark-type moves are strong (Super Effective) against Ghost and Psychic Pokemon. When a Dark Pokemon is on defense, they are resistant to Dark and Ghost. They are immune to Psychic attacks.
