Fire-type Pokemon are one of the three starter Pokemon that form a triangular, or rock-paper-scissors, relationship with Grass and Water-type Pokemon. Fire-type attacks are based around fire, meaning that when most of them attack, they can cause Burn to occur.
Some Fire-type Pokemon were inspired by mythology and folklore, such as Vulpix and Fennekin (which are based on Japanese folklore where they’ve combined foxes and fire), and Ponyta, Houndour, and Pansear (which are based on Chinese Zodiac animals).
Fire-type moves are usually Beautiful in contests, but some might be Cool, Cute, or Tough. None of these moves are Clever.
Fire Type Weaknesses
Fire-type Pokemon have weaknesses to Water, Ground, and Rock-type moves when on defense. Fire-type Pokemon attacks are not effective against the Flying, Poison, Bug, Psychic, and Fairy-type Pokemon.
They are also not very effective against Fire, Water, Rock, and Dragon-type Pokemon. Fire-type Pokemon attacks are weak against Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type Pokemon.
Fire Type Strengths
Fire-type moves are strong (Super Effective) against Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel Pokemon. When a Fire Pokemon is on defense, they are resistant to Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, and Fairy-type moves.
