Pokemon Generation 1 Type Chart

This chart only applies to the games Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green (Japan). There were no Dark or Steel types in this generation, and Ghost-type moves apparently by mistake had no effect on Psychic Pokemon. Bug was super-effective against Poison, and Ice-type moves were neutral against Fire.

Pokemon Type Weakness Descriptions

Bug Type Weaknesses

Bug-type Pokémon are weak against Fire, Flying, and Rock-type moves, which can deal significant damage to them due to their inherent weaknesses. Fire-type moves exploit the fragile exoskeletons of Bug Pokémon, while their lightweight nature leaves them susceptible to powerful gusts from Flying-types. Similarly, the hard, sturdy structure of Rock-type moves can easily crush these delicate creatures.

Dark Type Weaknesses

Dark-type Pokémon are weak against Fighting, Bug, and Fairy-type moves, which can inflict considerable damage due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Fighting-type moves exploit the Dark-types’ malicious nature, as righteous combatants can overcome the sinister forces they embody. Bug-type moves present a surprising threat to Dark-types, as these small but persistent creatures can find ways to infiltrate and undermine the shadows where Dark Pokémon often lurk. Lastly, the whimsical and magical properties of Fairy-type moves serve as a foil to the darkness, effectively combating the malevolent forces associated with Dark-types.

Electric Type Weaknesses

Electric-type Pokémon are primarily weak against Ground-type moves, which can cause substantial damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Ground-type moves exploit the conductivity of Electric-types, as the Earth can effectively absorb and neutralize electrical charges, rendering Electric Pokémon’s attacks futile. This singular weakness makes Electric-types relatively more resilient than other types, but it is still crucial for trainers to remain vigilant in the face of Ground-type opponents.

Fairy Type Weaknesses

Fairy-type Pokémon are weak against Steel and Poison-type moves, which can inflict significant damage due to their inherent vulnerabilities. Steel-type moves counter the delicate and mystical nature of Fairy-types, as the unyielding strength and durability of metal can withstand and overpower the ethereal forces they wield. Poison-type moves, on the other hand, corrupt the purity and grace of Fairy Pokémon, effectively neutralizing their magical properties.

Fighting Type Weaknesses

Fighting-type Pokémon are weak against Psychic, Flying, and Fairy-type moves, which can deal significant damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Psychic-type moves exploit the Fighting-types’ focus on brute force, as mental strength and manipulation can outwit and overpower these martial combatants. Flying-type moves pose a threat to Fighting-types, as the agility and evasiveness of airborne adversaries make it difficult for them to land their powerful physical attacks. Lastly, the mystical and whimsical properties of Fairy-type moves counterbalance the aggressive nature of Fighting Pokémon, effectively subduing their raw power.

Fire Type Weaknesses

Fire-type Pokémon are weak against Water, Ground, and Rock-type moves, which can inflict considerable damage due to their inherent susceptibilities. Water-type moves extinguish the ferocious flames of Fire-types, as the cooling and dousing properties of water overpower and suppress their fiery essence. Ground-type moves smother the heat and energy of Fire Pokémon, effectively neutralizing their burning potential. Similarly, the solid and unyielding nature of Rock-type moves can withstand and counter the intense heat generated by Fire-types.

Flying Type Weaknesses

Flying-type Pokémon are weak against Electric, Ice, and Rock-type moves, which can deal significant damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Electric-type moves pose a major threat to Flying-types, as the electrical charges can easily target and strike these fast-moving creatures, exploiting their natural conductivity. Ice-type moves challenge the Flying-types’ mobility, as the freezing and chilling effects can hinder their ability to navigate through the air with ease. Additionally, the solid and forceful nature of Rock-type moves can counteract the agility of Flying Pokémon, delivering substantial damage to these often fragile creatures.

Ghost Type Weaknesses

Ghost-type Pokémon are weak against other Ghost-type moves and Dark-type moves, which can inflict considerable damage due to their inherent susceptibilities. Ghost-type moves threaten these spectral creatures, as their own eerie powers can penetrate the intangible barriers that shield them from other types of attacks. Dark-type moves, on the other hand, exploit the enigmatic and shadowy nature of Ghost Pokémon, as the sinister forces associated with darkness can effectively challenge their supernatural abilities.

Grass Type Weaknesses

Grass-type Pokémon are weak against Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug-type moves, which can inflict significant damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Fire-type moves pose a substantial threat to Grass-types, as the heat and flames can easily consume and wither their plant-like structures. Ice-type moves exploit the sensitivity of Grass Pokémon to cold temperatures, as frosty conditions can impede their growth and vitality. Poison-type moves corrupt the natural and organic essence of Grass-types, effectively neutralizing their botanical powers. Additionally, Flying and Bug-type moves capitalize on the vulnerability of plants to be eaten or damaged by airborne creatures and insects, respectively.

Ground Type Weaknesses

Ground-type Pokémon are weak against Water, Ice, and Grass-type moves, which can deal considerable damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Water-type moves exploit Ground-types’ innate connection to the earth, as the eroding and saturating properties of water can destabilize and weaken their solid foundation. Ice-type moves pose a threat to Ground-types by freezing and solidifying the terrain, hindering their mobility and ability to harness the power of the earth effectively. Grass-type moves capitalize on the nourishing properties of the soil, as the roots and tendrils of these botanical creatures can absorb and drain the energy of Ground Pokémon.

Ice Type Weaknesses

Ice-type Pokémon are weak against Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel-type moves, which can inflict considerable damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Fire-type moves pose a significant threat to Ice-types, as the heat and flames can easily melt and weaken their frigid structures. Fighting-type moves exploit the brittleness of Ice Pokémon, as powerful physical blows can shatter their frozen forms. Rock-type moves deliver substantial damage to Ice-types due to their solidity and force, which can chip away at and break apart the ice. Additionally, Steel-type moves challenge the fragile nature of Ice Pokémon, as the unyielding strength and durability of metal can withstand and overpower their cold essence.

Normal Type Weaknesses

Normal-type Pokémon are weak against Fighting-type moves, which can inflict significant damage due to their inherent susceptibility. Fighting-type moves exploit the well-rounded nature of Normal-types by delivering powerful physical attacks that can overwhelm these adaptable creatures.

Poison Type Weaknesses

Poison-type Pokémon are weak against Psychic and Ground-type moves, which can inflict considerable damage to the Pokemon. Psychic-type moves exploit the noxious and corrupting essence of Poison-types, as the power of the mind can purify and overcome these toxic forces. Ground-type moves pose a threat to Poison-types by neutralizing their venomous powers through the earth’s absorbing and diluting properties.

Psychic Type Weaknesses

Psychic-type Pokémon are weak against Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type moves, which can inflict significant damage due to their inherent susceptibilities. Bug-type moves exploit the cerebral nature of Psychic-types, as these small but relentless creatures can infiltrate and disrupt the focus of their mental powers. Ghost-type moves pose a threat to Psychic-types by challenging their supernatural abilities with their own eerie and mysterious forces. Dark-type moves, on the other hand, represent the antithesis of Psychic Pokémon, as the sinister and malevolent nature of darkness can overpower and negate their mental strengths.

Rock Type Weaknesses

Rock-type Pokémon are weak against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel-type moves, which can deal considerable damage. Water-type moves exploit Rock-types’ innate connection to the earth, as the eroding and saturating properties of water can weaken and break apart their solid structures. Grass-type moves capitalize on the porous nature of rocks, as the roots and tendrils of these botanical creatures can penetrate and fracture their tough exteriors. Fighting-type moves deliver powerful physical attacks that can shatter the rigid forms of Rock Pokémon, while Ground-type moves disrupt their foundation and stability. Additionally, Steel-type moves pose a threat to Rock-types due to their unyielding strength and durability, which can effectively overpower and crush these stone-like creatures.

Steel Type Weaknesses

Steel-type Pokémon are weak against Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type moves, which can inflict considerable damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Fire-type moves pose a significant threat to Steel-types, as the intense heat and flames can soften and weaken their otherwise sturdy metallic structures. Fighting-type moves exploit the rigidity of Steel Pokémon, as powerful physical attacks can dent and deform their resilient forms. Ground-type moves challenge the stability and foundation of Steel-types, as the earth’s force can effectively disrupt their footing and compromise their defenses.

Water Type Weaknesses

Water-type Pokémon are weak against Electric and Grass-type moves, which can inflict considerable damage due to their inherent weaknesses. Electric-type moves pose a significant threat to Water-types, as the conductivity of water allows electrical charges to easily target and affect these aquatic creatures, exploiting their natural vulnerability. Grass-type moves capitalize on the nourishing properties of water, as the roots and tendrils of these botanical creatures can absorb and drain the energy of Water Pokémon, effectively neutralizing their aquatic powers.
